Talkin' 'Bout my Generation

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
- Abraham Lincoln

Thankfully, I know a lot of good people, and that makes up for the high concentration of douchebags on this campus.

Has anyone ever read The Poisonwood Bible? It's by far and away one of my favorite books, and I'm presently reading it for the fourth time. Some of the good people I know are religious. That's terrific, but please do not push it on me. My beliefs are the largest component of my personality, and asking me to reconsider what I know I stand for is just downright insulting. Religion is not a magazine subscription. Attempting to impose your ideas on someone else is, in my opinion, to cheapen the value of spirituality by making it exchangeable - that is, something that can be bought or sold or easily adopted. The complex thought process required for the formation of spiritual thought is uniquely human and extremely intimate. It's perhaps our most incredible trait. Let's stop advertising religion to each other like Cheetos.
