Crazy

Last night I fell asleep with the TV on. At 3 AM I awoke to the sound of someone eerily crooning at the faintest volume level mechanically possible. I suddenly recognized the tune as Little Boxes, AKA the 2007 Health Center theme song. I had only ever heard the song sung by a woman, but this version was being performed by an alarmingly clean-cut folk singer named Pete Seeger (yes, like Bob with an extra e). My interest piqued, I proceeded to sit up in bed and watch an hour long public television documentary on this guy.

Pete Seeger originated some of the most well-known American folk songs. If I Had a Hammer - Peter Paul & Mary, right? Nope, Pete Seeger. Turn! Turn! Turn! - made famous by the Byrds, but penned by Pete Seeger. He founded a program to clean up the Hudson River, wrote or co-wrote many of the protest songs of the civil rights movement, and, like many musicians of the time, spoke out vehemently against the Vietnam War. For years he was banned from many television and radio networks for his alleged involvement with the Communist party. Maybe this explains why he was such a mystery to me.

Detroit Public Television, being poor, was offering Pete Seeger CDs and DVDs with certain donation amounts. I was very tempted to purchase the DVD, which apparently features an elderly Pete Seeger showing viewers how to play the banjo and make a salad. What a guy.

Anyway, interesting.

Yes, the little boxes made of ticky tacky.

And the next person who insults Bob Seger is going to get a knuckle sandwich (which is a tremendous idiom, by-the-by).

I don't believe either of us insulted Bob. I rather like him, the other Seeger too. We may have made fun of MLA's word usage.

I believe AMK has found her "New Religion".

I wonder, would a "knuckle sandwich" from MLA taste like cream cheese?

It's not necessarily that either of you insulted Bob, I've just encountered two people in the last two weeks who claim they "hate" Bob Seger so I'm a little testy about it right now. My apologies.

And I'd like to think that a knuckle sandwich from MLA would taste like a good hockey fight.

It would taste like Taco Bell and Arnold Palmer.

Which of course begs the question, "What does Arnold Palmer taste like?"

I'm not brave enough to delve further in that subject or how one might find out...
