2008

1. Happy New Year!

2. Yo yo yo from Chi-town.

3. Stayed up until 5 last night planning Camp 3 Musketeers AKA "Camp Country Road" or "Camp Awesome." Deets forthcoming from one of us.

4. Speaking of camp (and when aren't we), got offered general counselor job at the fat camp and a program director-esque position at the G-Scout establishment. What to do? Break it down:

FAT CAMP PROS
Work with kids who may be more troubled
Rewarding, get to see "end result" with campers, meet goals, work hard etc.
NOT in Michigan
Totally different scene/culture
Nice facilities
Good programming from what I've seen
Big risk for me (you know how I am)
Summer-long camp = bonding

FAT CAMP CONS
Significantly less money than other job
Far frickin' away, no trips home all summer most likely
Dude on phone sounds...interesting
No official leadership and programming experience
Little experience working with younger kids (?)
Not being able to switch it up and meet a bunch of new campers (again, the summer-long thing)

Why am I doing this in public? This is really something that should be written down on a Post-It. Anyway, carrying on...

GSCOUT PROS
Leadership role, getting to do programming (hooray!)
Young kids, grades 1-5
Close to home (all my homes: Roch, Fenton, and GP)
Nostalgic (I went to this camp)
MORE MONEY!! Sorry, this actually is paramount as I'm trying to become a real person
Smaller, less commercial setting; no MTV
Empowering girls (all about that as we know)

GSCOUT CONS
No men
Crazy girl drama
Over-my-head job?
I've heard from other Gscouts/moms that their camp in general is kind of loosy-goosy
That's it

Okay done. Tell me what you think if you'd like.

I was once told by a certain Artichoke of the Head variety to move up and up. Don't put yourself back at the bottom of the ladder you have already been there.

Climb the ladder mentee, it's not over your head.

I have my own thoughts, but before I divulge them....

What exactly are you trying to get out of this summer? Are you planning on staying in camping full time? Or are you looking for a cool summer job to do before you start a teaching job in the fall?

Because that would change the scenario a lot.

I think you're in danger of meeting some people at the MTV camp who are there for MTV. I think you would dislike that.

I think you need a summer with a positive experience in leadership. Programming is the best way to get that.

I think you're a good role model for girls.

So Girl Scout camp gets my vote.
