The Saddest Thing Ever

For my education class we have to pick a student in the class we're observing and try to find out how they learn. I'm in a first-grade classroom and picked this adorable little bald boy with huge glasses. I've noticed that he has trouble reading and he's kind of hard to understand when he talks, but overall he's a really sweet, nice kid. And very funny.

So, I talked to his teacher outside of class and found out that he's basically a feral child. He was severely neglected as a baby - apparently his parents would just leave him in his carseat all day. He didn't learn to talk until last year (he's six) and he can hardly read or write. How terrible. He's in a foster home now, but I can't imagine that foster care in Albion is that terrific. What's really sad is that he's such a good kid and very smart in other areas. Who knows where he'd be now if someone had actually cared for him.

I want so badly just to take this child home with me, but all I can do is sit there and jot notes on him.
