I Am Brain Dead

Lately I haven't been able to think of anything substantial to write about. I was going to write a 5-paragraph essay about cheese, but I decided against it because it reminded me of school and thus made me very disgruntled. Instead, I shall post a Google image of said subject to express my adamancy.

Has anyone ever noticed how literal country music videos are? No symbolism whatsoever. When Carrie Underwood is digging her key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive, we actually see her digging her key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive. Compare this, for example, to Panic! At the Disco's music videos. Both types of music often express similar ideas. I suppose country music lyrics just need to be spelled out a little clearer to their specific audience.

I resent that! I love country music, and don't think I'm dumber for it, or think that others who are generalized for liking the certain genre should be classified as incapable of recognizing symbolism... what alternatives would you suggest for country music videos?

I enjoy some country music as well. I just think it's humorous that you never have to guess what's going on in a country song. Sorry about the remark at the end, I just happen to know some rather ignorant country music fans, as well as (in my opinion) some ignorant country music songs. "We'll stick a boot in your ass courtesy of the red white and blue"? Come on!

This type of observation is difficult because it requires generalizations. I would say the tendency toward literalism in country music videos has less to do with intelligence and more to with class and economics. The literalism tendency speaks to a blue collar listen the deals in a concrete world. They are pragmatic in their approach to things, that kind of mindset while neither good nor bad, does not leave much room for art or symbolism. These guys want to relax and not have to think about the implied message because they work hard all day. Art and Symbols hold little value. At the other end of the spectrum, classical, ballet and opera is almost exclusively an upper-class pass time. These mediums are almost pure symbolism and art, particularly the symphony. So I would say in my humble opinion the music represents one social status or how they perceive their social status as the music one listens too is a very personal thing.
